Well if that subject line didn't spoil it for you then I'm sorry because the next paragraph will. And shut off your geek filter here.
Let me start by saying I have not read the new Captain America nor I have even been to the comic shop today, but all over the news, and not just the comic news sites, is the news that Captain America has been shot and killed in the latest issue of his series. This is the end of the Civil War storyline.
This is major news to me as Cap is like my all time favorite character and anyone that knows me knows how I feel about what the character stands for. Cap stands for all that is good in America, pure and simple. And there is plenty great with this country, no matter what those who hate us think. When I heard the news I was shocked and appauled. This is the worst timing for the character to go as America in comics needs him, and we as a nation need him worse.
However, the latest run by Brubaker and Epting has been phenomenal. Bru really gets this character, as did Waid in some of my favorite stories like Man without a Country and American Nightmare, so I'm glad they've done it in the actual book with him writing it. From the pages I have seen it looks like it was done right, and there's a swerve in there that sounds completely sick.
I'm sure this isn't the end of Cap though, especially with a movie coming in the next few years. And if he doesn't return, well that's just wrong. It's not about the costume either, Steve Rogers the man is where the heart of Captain America is and I have good faith in Marvel to remember that. Don't let me down guys.
I look forward to checking out the book, but until then, and your return, rest in peace, Cap, I'll always keep believing in the dream.
