Last week I finished scripting issue 2 of Vengeance of the Vapor, and I found it to be the quickest smoothest script I had ever written. I keep wondering what that means, if anything at all. Part of me keeps thinking maybe I'm moving myself up to that next step, but then I just stop and focus on the next task at hand and that's issue 3. One foot in front of the other, no long looks back.
Anyways since it's my most recent work, and to help along with the promotion of Vengeance I thought I'd use a page from this issue for this week's Scriptage. In this scene, our protagonist, Brooks Rogers, is being walked through the enslaved town of Tin Cup to meet the book's antagonist, The Heavy, for the first time.
So I hope you enjoy it, and feel free to let me know your thoughts.
VENGEANCE OF THE VAPOR #2
PAGE 19
19.1: It is evening now as Brooks is walked through the streets by Sancho and a guard. People are returning to their homes looking dirtier than they were before, and another shift is being walked towards the stream. Also in the background there is a ragged old man on the ground that an outlaw is pulling and a equally ragged young girl who is begging for him to stop.
BROOKS: I SEE YOU GUYS ARE MAKING SOME LOOT OUT HERE.
SANCHO: EH, WE ARE SETTING UP OUR RETIREMENT, NO? HAHA!
19.2: The young girl runs up to Brooks and tugs on him to help her father. Sancho tilts his head in disgust as Brooks seems completely freaked out.
GIRL (1): SIR! PLEASE HELP US! HELP MY FATHER!
BROOKS: HUH? I…I CAN’T!
GIRL (2): HOW CAN YOU SAY NO?!
19.3: Sancho pulls her away forcefully dragging her through mud in the process. Brooks is very unsettled by all of this.
SANCHO: BACK OFF! THIS HERE'S A GUEST OF THE HEAVY!
19.4: Sancho continues to walk and the guard puts his gun in Brooks back to move as Brooks looks at the girl crying on the ground.
SANCHO: THEY ALL ARE SAD SAPS. EVERY LAST ONE. HAHA!
19.5: They come to what is the biggest and most beautiful house in town; it is The Heavy’s. Brooks is shivering.
SANCHO (1): THIS IS HEAVY’S CASA.
BROOKS: GOOD, THIS COLD IS EATING THROUGH MY BONES.
SANCHO (2): AH, AMIGO, FORGIVE ME.
19.6: Sancho and Brooks turn around to face the opening of the town cemetery. Two large carved pieces of wood with a cross piece of wood with a bull skull mark the entrance. Sancho points to it.
SANCHO: BUT THE HEAVY, HE WAITS FOR YOU DOWN THERE.
BROOKS: HOW...FITTING.
