For this week's Scriptage I chose a more simple 3 panel page, but one that had more description, and also some pop culture referencing which is a good way to visualize to an artist sometimes. This one is from my long awaited graphic novel The Hill, for which I will have some very good news about in the next couple of weeks. This baby has been close to my heart for a long time and I cannot wait for it be released.
Anyhoo...
The Hill is a tale of human manipulation experiments and the death, destruction, and revenge it begets. In the following scene one of our main characters, Jill, has purposely overdosed, but her support team refuse to let her die. Of technical note the first panel has something a little different, a camera shot angle. In this story I used video camera shots to transition certain time sensitive scenes. I hope all that sounds intriguing enough to want to read the book, and if it doesn't quite yet, well here's the scene. Enjoy!
(some descriptive language was changed for this selection)
THE HILL
PAGE 9
9.1: Jill lying back on a love seat, all messed up in an apartment that looks even more messed up, although it looks as if at one time it was really elegant. Her hair is longer and grown out now more than it was in the opening sequence. Her head is lolled to one side, her eyes rolled back in it. Saliva is dripping out of the corner of her mouth. In her hand, barely, is a pill bottle. On the floor are other pill bottles, all uncapped, just laying around her feet.
Camera shot: Date: 11/29/11, Time: 04:37:56.
VOICE: CONDITION?
9.2: Back up a bit to show men in weird uniforms, kind of like Lifeline from GI Joe, surrounding her. They have various backpacks filled with medical equipment, there are also various pouches and straps on their legs and sides filled with equipment. Some of them have automatic weapons and handguns either hanging about or strapped and two of them are aiming them at Jill. One of them is taking some sort of reading of her on something that looks like PKE reader from Ghostbusters. One of the medical officers speaks in the foreground.
OFFICER: SHE'S IN DEEP SHOCK, SIR.
9.3: Another man sits across from her as the medical team assesses the situation, none of them have touched her though. The man has a moustache and beard that aren't connected. The beard runs up the side of his face and stops level to the top of his ears. He's bald after that. He's wearing a suit under a long Armani coat.
MAN: I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR THIS. GET HER UP.
